Hey Reader Sooo it's been a while π What was supposed to be a quick one-week newsletter hiatus seems to have snowballed into a multi-month unintentional break. My bad. I don't need to tell you how busy this end of the year can be, which is definitely made all the more busy when you're putting out a video per day for the whole of December on YouTube π (Am I using this newsletter to procrastinate video editing...maybe...) With that added work though, sadly the newsletter was one of the items that regularly got pushed to the end of the task list. But we're back! Just in case it's been so long that you're not even sure what these newsletters are typically about, my aim is always to:
While the idea for this week could be "give yourself grace when life gets busy", I've got something more exciting for you π The idea - Use templates to make life easierAs much fun as starting from scratch is whenever we go to do something... Starting from zero each time, especially for those things that we find ourselves doing repeatedly, is just wasting the resources of future-us. Rather than reinventing the wheel with each iteration, templates help by giving us something to start with. We just have to customise them in the moment to fit the specific situation. They save time, reduce decision fatigue, and mean we can spend our energy on other more important things. Templates aren't just for documents though. Some of my favourite day-to-day templates are:
While my templates aren't necessarily going to be the same ones that would be most helpful for you, building templates into our common tasks and routines can help us get started easier, reduce decision fatigue, and make things faster. Let's take actionGiven that templates can be applied to a lot of areas of our lives, a good starting point is paying attention to where you repeat yourself. Anything you find yourself doing time and time again is a prime candidate for a template π A question I like to use to help me find templatable life areas is: What is a common practice or process of mine that could be made easier or faster with a template? Whether it's a preselected meal plan, a reference checklist, or a literal document template, setting these up in advance will save future-you a lot of time π Templates for templatesWhile I'm a big advocate of making your own templates that are specifically tailored to your life, sometimes it's helpful to have a template for your template. I'm excited to share that we now have a Notion template library with a bunch of checklists and other resources all designed to help make your life just that little bit easier πͺ We'll have a video out next week which goes through some of them, but as part of the newsletter team, you get early access. Hit the button below to jump over to the library and have a snoop!
This library is going to continue to grow as I build new templates for you, so let me know if there's anything you think would be helpful π Don't use Notion? All good! We of course still have the free resource library that has a bunch of checklists and templates available for you π In particular, as we start to get our planners and journals set up for 2026, over in the resource library we have:
Hit the button below to jump over there and have a snoop!
Hopefully it won't be quite as long until my next newsletter to you, but I best get back to the Vlogmas editing now... These videos aren't going to make themselves π Until next time! - Jess PS. Change Your Life 2026 is coming! The Change Your Life challenge is back for 2026 and we want you with us πͺ If you want to make 2026 your year and finally accomplish those things you keep putting off, then this challenge is for you. I share weekly actionable advice for people who use paper-based planning systems looking to live a more productive and creative life.
Hey Reader It might come as a surprise, but I'm actually a big fan of a to do list. Shocking, I know π I love how they help me organise my thinking, and tackle my day with more clarity. Plus, the satisfaction of checking things off is very rewarding to me. The problem is though, given how much I like a to do list, sometimes I'll get a bit carried away or unfiltered when writing them. For something like a brain dump where the purpose is to declutter your mind, being unfiltered is fine. In fact...
Hey Reader If you were on a bus and realised you were going the wrong way, would you get off at the next stop, or just keep going? On one hand, getting off the bus immediately requires a little bit of discomfort. Maybe you have to have an awkward conversation with the driver or, at the very least, you have to get up from where you're sitting. Continuing on will certainly save you from that, but it comes with its own set of negatives. The further you let the bus take you, the further you're...
Hey Reader One thing I've been aiming to implement for myself recently is a "soft productivity week" once per cycle. The intention is that work would still get done, but I also take more time off to rest and have fun. Naturally, with last week being my first official soft productivity week, the body decided it was time to get sick π Obviously it really wanted to ensure that I was going to take time off. (If you were curious about how the week went down, and the getaway reading retreat I took...
