Unfinished Projects Are Killing Your Productivity

Hey Reader If you've watched any of my Change Your Life Challenge vlogs, then you may have heard about my B-roll library project ๐Ÿ˜… The long-story-short is that I really want an organised library of my previously recorded video clips. I could use these in future videos whenever I want to showcase an example or highlight a point without having to re-record things. Great in theory, but when it comes to doing the work? Ugh ๐Ÿ™„ All I really need to do is: Go through the clips and delete the ones I...

Hey Reader Happy Quarter 3! ๐Ÿฅณ As someone who plans their goals on a quarterly basis, I love the fresh start feeling that comes with July. Some of the goals Iโ€™ve set for the 3 months ahead are repeats or revamped versions of things I've already been working on, but others are completely new and giving me the novelty that my brain craves ๐Ÿ˜ˆ While working on a new goal (or in my case set of goals ๐Ÿ˜) can certainly cause excitement and a boost of motivation, I know this feeling will not stick...

Hey Reader Recently Iโ€™ve been thinking about how easy it is to accidentally overcomplicate things ๐Ÿ˜… What starts as a simple plan for a morning routine balloons into a list of +10 things to do. Our soft expectations for what counts as a "good" weekly meal plan becomes hoops to jump through. A file sorting system that was supposed to keep us organised ends up being a mission to maintain. Quickly filling in our habit tracker turns into a scavenger hunt for that specific coloured pen we need. ๐Ÿคฆโ™€๏ธ...

Hey Reader I already know Iโ€™m not the best at giving myself leisure time ๐Ÿ˜… I enjoy my work and that means holding boundaries with it can be challenging! With dedicated effort though, Iโ€™ve actually been able to contain my work to โ€œwork hoursโ€, freeing up my evenings and weekends more than I ever have. Go me! ๐Ÿ’ช But this has come with its own problem. If the leisure time is dedicated to spending with others, I'm normally pretty good at doing genuinely leisurely and cup-filling things. But...

Hey Reader One of the biggest challenges I face when it comes to getting stuff done are side quests ๐Ÿ˜… (No jokes, I've been on 3 and counting since writing that first sentence. If you were curious, the side quests were cancelling an online membership, making a Google Drive folder to share pictures with my friends, and scrolling on Instagram ๐Ÿคฆโ™€๏ธ) Some side quests are very obviously not helping me (looking at you, IG!) while others don't seem to be quite so bad. Cancelling that membership?...

Hey Reader I am putting off so many tasks right now ๐Ÿ˜… Coming up next week, Vogel and I are taking a trip to the UK. While this is certainly exciting, it also means I've got a decent set of tasks on my to-do list 10 videos to edit 2 podcast episodes to prepare A book club meeting to plan for This newsletter...and 3 others And that's just the work tasks ๐Ÿ˜ Let's not talk about the other things though; I'm already overwhelmed enough with just the work stuff! Most of the time when it comes to...

Hey Reader A mindset that costs me more time and energy than I'd like to admit is feeling like I have to start from scratch every time I do something ๐Ÿ˜ While there are some situations when starting from zero can be useful, there are also a lot of instances where this just isn't necessary. Thankfully we don't actually have to start from nothing in those cases; there are things we can do and make to help future-us out! I've even made some for you, so let's have a look ๐Ÿ‘€ The idea - Use templates...

Hey Reader One of the hardest parts of goal planning is accounting for the unpredictability of life. Sometimes itโ€™ll be random plans that pop up and interrupt what was otherwise going to be time to get things done. It could be waking up feeling tired, unwell, or with a migraine. Or it could even be having a chronic health condition and not knowing whether you're going have the energy or lower pain level necessary to do the tasks that your goal requires. If left unaccounted for, the...

Hey Reader You know those tasks that aren't really that difficult, but they feel oddly hard to make ourselves start? Or those things that will realistically take 5 minutes, but they've been sitting on our "to do" list for 2 weeks...or more...๐Ÿ‘€ Yeahhhh ๐Ÿ˜… I've come to notice that a lot of the time, the thing that holds me back isn't so much my ability to do the task. It's also not a lack of wanting the thing done. It's boredom. Some tasks are just painfully dull and Rebel Brainโ„ข๏ธ is trying to...

Just because you could be doing more, doesn't mean you aren't doing enough

Hey Reader Recently I came across a quote that really made me stop and think about my mindset towards goal-getting and productivity. Just because you could be doing more, doesn't mean you aren't doing enough I very often fall victim to feeling like I could be doing more, even when (especially when? ๐Ÿ‘€) I'm already drowning in tasks. On one hand this mindset can be helpful in that it helps me look for ways to optimise my time and make the best use of my work hours. On the other hand though,...
