100 Days Until 2026

Hey Reader

On September 2nd, I celebrated my 100th day in a row of exercise πŸ₯³

If you had told January 1st Jess that this would be a milestone she'd hit this year, she'd definitely have scoffed at you.

I've never been an exercise kind of person, let alone a daily exercise person.

But here we are, now at 117 days in a row (186 days for the year!)

What's probably more exciting than hitting the 100-day streak though is the payoff that it's had.

Jess versus "The hill"

Back in March, when I first started exercising regularly, one of the things that held me accountable was doing it with someone else 😊

Vogel and I would take daily walks around a set circuit in our neighbourhood. This was not only good exercise, but a nice opportunity to spend time together and get outside.

Much to my dismay though, the circuit featured "the hill" πŸ‘€

Every time we tackled the (honestly not that impressive) hill, I'd tell Vogel he wasn't allowed to ask me any questions during our hill-based conversation because I could barely breathe 😝

Walk after walk, tackling the hill did get a little easier, but I never got to a point where I'd call it not "a struggle".

As we started to head into winter though, with the days getting shorter and the weather getting poorer, we switched outside walking for indoor walking.

I was glad to say good-bye to the hill and even more glad to say hello to a new walking pad! (I stand by it being one of our best purchases from this year).

Since May, I've been doing my daily walks indoors, away from the elements, with temperature control and on a nice flat surface.

That was until this week though.

On Tuesday, the weather was nice enough that Vogel suggested that we go for a walk together outside.

After months of exercising solely inside on a flat walking pad, I was a little nervous πŸ˜…

I knew the hill was waiting for me, and despite being eager to get some fresh air and a change of scenery, all I could think was "what if all my flat-lander walking has undone my hill-tackling progress?"

As we were leaving the house, I even pre-warned Vogel that I wasn't going to be very talkative when we got to the hill and that he'd have to do most of the talking (thankfully, this isn't a problem for him πŸ˜‚)

We set off, making quick work of the flat section, started up the hill's incline...and walked up it without any troubles.

Sure, I got to the top a little winded, but nowhere near as out of breath as I had been back in March.

The part that really made it stand out to me though was that I could actually hold a conversation the whole way up (much to Vogel's dismay, given I kept interrupting his story 😝)

That's the real win for me.

Not the exercise streak, but what that effort has given me.

Yes, getting 100 days in a row of exercise is a cool milestone to hit, but "not feeling like I'm dying walking up the hill" is definitely a better one πŸ’ͺ

What progress could you make in 100 days?

Come September 23rd, there will only be 100 days left until the new year.

First of all, how did we get here so quickly? 😝

More importantly, how are we going to make those days count?

The idea - Commit to something small, but impactful, for the next 100 days

What is something that, if done daily over 100 days, would have a genuine positive impact for you?

While we can be tempted to commit to something big here, I encourage you to think about something almost laughably small.

Maybe for you it’s:

  • A 5-minute stretching routine
  • Drinking a glass of water before your morning coffee
  • Writing one thing you're grateful for each day
  • Reading two pages of a book
  • Finding 5 things to declutter or dispose of

For me, it was "exercise". No specifics on how long or in what form, but I was going to do exercise every day.

Individually, these things don't seem life-changing.

The power lies in doing them consistently, day after day, and building up that habit for yourself.

That's where we start to see real pay-offs.

Let's take action

Thinking of an area you'd like to improve in, pick one thing you could do daily for the next 100 days that would have a positive impact.

It's okay if it's so small it almost feels silly to write it down. Write it down anyways.

Once you've got your "thing", set up a way to track your completion of it. This could be a tracker in your journal, checking off days on a wall calendar, or some other system that helps you easily see your streak.

I'm going to be sticking with my exercise; maybe I'll even make it to 200 πŸ‘€ but I'd love to hear what you end up picking!

If you want accountability as you work on your 100 day streak, we'd love to have you as part of Change Your Life too πŸ˜„ Hit the button below to join the goal-getting community 😈

Until next time!

- Jess

Hey Reader Tomorrow's my birthday πŸ₯³ Bring on 34 πŸ’ͺ To celebrate, I'm throwing myself a "Thirty-Four-hoa-hoa-hoa-hoa" party, or essentially an "Eat the film" day for the Twilight movies, featuring themed snacks and drinks. But this newsletter isn't really about that (even though I'm super excited for it 😝) Instead, I wanted to use the occasion as a fun excuse to share 34 of my favourite things in honour of turning 34. Don’t worry, this isn’t just going to be a self-indulgent list of random...

Hey Reader Sometimes the simplest advice can be the most impactful. Back at the start of our newslettering journey together, I gave you 5 of my favourite tiny tips. (If you're new to the newsletter team, you might not have gotten that one yet. Don't worry, it's coming!) In that email, I also asked if you had a tiny tip you thought could help other members of the newsletter team. As we move into Quarter 4, I thought some of these tips were timely reminders for how we can approach what is often...

Hey Reader At this point of the year, time seems to speed up 😝 While it feels like I was just finishing my mid-year journal setup, Halloween is right around the corner. I'm getting antsy about planning for Christmas and New Year, but also super tempted to look ahead to 2026. The mindset I often fall into around this time is that any of those goals I wanted to work on this year, but haven't quite gotten around to, would make for great new year goals πŸ‘€ Why not just let the -ber months slide and...
